Understanding Your Dasha Calculations
This tool provides insights into your astrological timings through Maha Dasha, Antar Dasha, and Pratyantar Dasha calculations. Here's a breakdown of each:
1. Maha Dasha Calculation (Life Period Cycles)
Foundation: Your date of birth determines the starting point of your Maha Dasha cycles.
Process:
The day of your birth (DD) is reduced to a single digit. For example, if you were born on the 6th, 06 becomes 0 + 6 = 6.
This single digit corresponds to a planet and its associated Maha Dasha period (in years). In our example, 6 represents Venus, with a 6-year Maha Dasha.
The calculation then progresses, adding the corresponding planetary year to the previous cycle's end year, and so on.
Example (DOB: 06-01-1976):
06-01-1976 to 05-01-1982 (6 = Venus Maha Dasha, 6 years)
06-01-1982 to 05-01-1989 (7 = Ketu Maha Dasha, 7 years)
06-01-1989 to 05-01-1997 (8 = Saturn Maha Dasha, 8 years)
Maha Dasha Planetary Years:
1 = Sun (1 year)
2 = Moon (2 years)
3 = Jupiter (3 years)
4 = Rahu (4 years)
5 = Mercury (5 years)
6 = Venus (6 years)
7 = Ketu (7 years)
8 = Saturn (8 years)
9 = Mars (9 years)
Result: This calculation provides a timeline of your major life periods, each governed by a specific planet.
2. Antar Dasha Calculation (Sub-Periods)
Foundation: This calculation uses your date of birth (DD-MM) and a specific year (either a provided year or the current year).
Process:
The birthday of the specified year is considered. For example, for a DOB of 06-01-xx76 and the year xx25, the birthday is 06-01-xx25. (xx not include for counting)
The day of the week of the current year birthday is found.
The day of the week number is added to the total of the current year birthday numbers.
This is then reduced to a single digit, revealing the first Antar Dasha number.
Example: 06-01-xx25 (Monday = 2) = 0 + 6 + 0 + 1 + 2 + 5 + 2 = 16 = 7 (Ketu)
Each Antar Dasha period lasts for one year.
Example:
06-01-2025 to 05-01-2026 (7 = Ketu Antar Dasha)
06-01-2026 to 05-01-2027 (8 = Saturn Antar Dasha)
06-01-2027 to 05-01-2028 (9 = Mars Antar Dasha)
Planetary Day Numbers:
1 = Sun (Sunday)
2 = Moon (Monday)
3 = Jupiter (Thursday)
4 = Rahu (-)
5 = Mercury (Wednesday)
6 = Venus (Friday)
7 = Ketu (-)
8 = Saturn (Saturday)
9 = Mars (Tuesday)
Antar Dasha Planetary Years:
1 = Sun (1 year)
2 = Moon (1 years)
3 = Jupiter (1 years)
4 = Rahu (1 years)
5 = Mercury (1 years)
6 = Venus (1 years)
7 = Ketu (1 years)
8 = Saturn (1 years)
9 = Mars (1 years)
Planetary Year for Antar Dasha: Each planet is assigned one year for the Antar Dasha.
Result: This calculation provides a timeline of sub-periods within a Maha Dasha.
3. Pratyantar Dasha Calculation (Sub-Sub-Periods)
Foundation: This calculation uses the first Antar Dasha number.
Process:
The first Antar Dasha number becomes the starting point.
Each planet is assigned a specific number of days for its Pratyantar Dasha.
Example:
If the first Antar Dasha number is 7 (Ketu), then the first Pratyantar Dasha is Ketu.
Example:
06-01-2025 to 03-03-2025 (7 = Ketu Pratyantar Dasha)
04-03-2025 to 07-05-2025 (8 = Saturn Pratyantar Dasha)
08-05-2025 to 19-07-2025 (9 = Mars Pratyantar Dasha)
Pratyantar Dasha Planetary Days:
1 = Sun (8 days)
2 = Moon (16 days)
3 = Jupiter (24 days)
4 = Rahu (32 days)
5 = Mercury (40 days)
6 = Venus (48 days)
7 = Ketu (56 days)
8 = Saturn (64 days)
9 = Mars (72 days)
Result: This calculation provides a more detailed timeline of sub-sub-periods within an Antar Dasha.
